LAB VALUES
IN OUR LAB WE:
-
Share credit. We credit each other and other researchers, designers, and community partners appropriately. For instance, this set of values is borrowed and adapted from CoALA Lab, The Design Justice Principles, Amy Ko's Lab Guide, Angela Stewart's Lab, and Hammer and colleagues’ Lab Counterculture paper.
-
Respect people as humans. Everyone in this lab respects each other as whole people, not just their role in academia or the contributions they share.
-
Collaborate. Everyone is an expert of their own lived experience and has their own contributions to bring to design and research. We offer open communication, shares ideas, offer feedback, and listen as much, or more, than we share.
-
Prioritize well-being over productivity. We take care of ourselves and each other. We prioritize rest and mental and physical health, so that we can bring our best selves to work.
-
Hold ourselves and our work accountable. We prioritize designs and research that impacts communities in ways that are accountable, accessible, and sustainable. We look toward and lift communities’ traditions and knowledge, share our resources, and collaborate on all aspects of the design and research.
-
Reflect on our impact. Our goal is to co-create designs that sustain, support, and empower communities. Our impact only begins with publishing it does not end with it.
-
Celebrate effort over outcomes. We celebrate quality work (e.g., papers, grants, applications) as iterations toward excellence rather than outcomes of those efforts
